Tatiana Kochkareva‘s video “Fly High” premiered today on PureVolume, and they had some very kind words: “It’s the kind of voice that conjures old school jazz and deep soul, mixed with a distinctly ambient quality that is entirely her own. It’s abrasive and syrupy, and it will most definitely leave you in awe.” Tatiana’s album Infinity drops on April 19th.

Vocalist + Trombonist elizabeth! Releases “Brainchildren” 11/1
8 AugVocalist, trombonist, and songwriter elizabeth! will release Brainchildren, her debut album of original jazz pop music, on November 1st, 2011.
elizabeth!, who has performed and toured with pop stars like Michael Bolton, jazz musicians like Matt Wilson, and indie rockers like St. Vincent, recorded Brainchildren (Canopy Jazz) in Brooklyn, NY in a single day.
Inspired by travels around the world, the album outlines similarities found in our experiences no matter where we live. “Three” tells the story of a couple deciding to have a child, “Bicycle” reminds a child to enjoy his innocence while it lasts, and “Melting Snow” describes the feeling of rebirth after tragedy. Several songs relate tales of love gained or lost, and the album is rounded out with instrumentals inspired by insomnia, tacos, and a skipping stroll in Memphis.
Brainchildren features Rob Jost (Saturday Night Live, Bjork) on bass and Robert Di Pietro (Norah Jones, Josh Rouse) on drums and special guests include Kiku Collins (Beyonce), Jon Natchez (Beirut), and Mark Erelli (Josh Ritter).
Brainchildren follows elizabeth!’s 2008 release hot & silver, an EP of jazz standards in which she turned classic American songbook tunes like “L-O-V-E” and “Night and Day” into her own creations.
eJazzNews called it “a classy entrance into the world of jazz.”
The Palo Alto Daily News said “her silky, sultry, elegant vocals enliven standards …elizabeth! gives each tune a few tasty new twists.”

Notable venues include: Jazz at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Town Hall, Chicago Theater, Sasquatch Music Festival, Good Morning America, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Today Show, PBS’s Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize broadcast honoring Tina Fey, Bowery Ballroom, Jazz Standard, and Switzerland’s Willisau Jazz Festival. New Music Tuesday: Asa
7 JunAsa (pronounced “Asha”) is a talented Nigerian singer-songwriter. Born in Paris but raised in Lagos, Nigeria, her second album, Beautiful Imperfection, is set for U.S. release in September 2011. The album combines pop, reggae, jazz and soul sounds, in addition to the Yoruba language. Asa’s appearance and musical sound are calm, cool and bright. Her smooth, smokey voice will put you at ease while the percussion and bass are sure to get your foot tapping. Her tracks reflect love, pain and life itself.
Check out Asa in NYC this week at the Rockwood Music Hall on June 8th!
About: The story of Asa begins in Lagos, Nigeria where she found a home in her father’s extensive and eclectic collection of records from soul classics to traditional Nigerian music. Starting to sing at a young age, Asa was inspired by the sounds and messages of artists such as Marvin Gaye, Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, Sunny Ade and Ebenezer Obey who served as touchstones when she later began crafting her own songs. It wasn’t until she was studying in Paris that she truly formed her musical style, immersing herself in the songs of her musical contemporaries — Erika Badu, D’Angelo, Rafel Saadiq, Lauryn Hill and Angelique Kidjo. Full Disclosure: Asa is a great artist but we don’t work for her. We just dig her tunes.
