After working on Wall Street for 16 years, in 2011 Osatinski left the grind to pursue his true passion. Nine months later, in September 2011, he unveiled Pisces of an Unconscious Mind, a film loosely based on his own experiences and events, told through the languages of scenic imagery, poetry, and allegory. “Pisces of an Unconscious Mind abstracts out a lot of the ideas I had over the past 16 years,” he said. “It goes back in time and draws a parallel between the two realms that I witnessed back then, and that I have been witnessing now.”

A native of Russia, Osatinski spent his childhood under the Soviet regime. In August 1991, he witnessed history first hand while attempting to cross the border on a bus trip near Pshemisli, Poland, after his group got stuck at the border and spent five days waiting to be let through. “It was an unforgettable experience because what I saw on the border was really horrific. People literally lived there waiting and waiting to get through.”

A week after they eventually crossed into Poland, a group from the Soviet government attempted to take control of Russia from then-president Mikhail Gorbachev. “The entire country was cut off from the rest of the world. People inside Russia didn’t know exactly what was happening,” he said. “I lost contact with my family for three days.”

Although the coup collapsed in only two days and Gorbachev returned to government, the event destabilized the Soviet Union and is widely considered to have contributed to both the demise of the Communist Party and the dissolution of the Soviet Union. “Since I was outside of the country, I saw 1991 on Polish TV as it was actually happening,” he said.

Three years later, Osatinski graduated with Masters in Physics and immigrated to the United States with his family. He immersed himself in American culture, attending New York University, where he obtained his business degree in Finance and Computer Science. Osatinski now lives in New York City and is currently working on his first full-length feature film.
