Kat Parsons to Release "Talk to Me" 4/3

First of Three EPs to Be Released This Year; Includes “Fall For It,” Produced by Mike Flynn (Epic) and Warren Huart

LOS ANGELES, CA: LA based musician Kat Parsons will release her highly anticipated new EP, Talk To Me, on April 3, 2012. With a writing style and piano based pop singer/songwriter sound akin to a modern Carole King, Parsons’ will release the title track as the first single on Feb 28th. Later this year, she will also release two follow up EPs: OH! and It Matters to Me.

The leading track from Talk to Me, “Fall For It,” was produced by Mike Flynn (The Fray, Sara Bareilles) and Warren Huart (James Blunt, Howie Day), after Parsons beat over 1,400 artists to win the OurStage.com contest “Get your song produced by head of A&R at Epic Records“ in March 2010. The track is a pop anthem for all those who have been chased, and as soon as captured, left alone.

Talk To Me – funded in part by her legions of over 8,000 dedicated fans who contributed $19,560 — puts Parsons’ music and beautiful voice at the forefront, revealing her as tough, yet vulnerable; knowing yet naïve; expecting the best in people without being blind to their faults. The tracks “TV Radio” and “Differently” explore these ideas: the dissonance between reality and fantasy; between expectation and disappointment; between “should be” and “is.” Parsons gets sucked into the black hole of rumination in the song “Thinking Through.”

Parsons has opened for or shared bills with heavy hitters like Billy Corgan, Jim White, Spin Doctors, and Sara Bareilles. And she’s performed across the U.S., Japan, Europe, Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, and Australia. She has appeared on the cover of Music Connection magazine, won the Acoustic Live competition (beating out more than 600 musicians), and her sophomore album No Will Power was runner-up for Album of the Year at the 2005 DIY Music Festival. She’s been covered in Billboard, Boston Globe, Washington Post (“a fiery spirit…confident, dynamic songs…”), The Onion, and more.

Kat Parsons will release Talk To Me on April 3rd. Look for the subsequent releases of OH!, followed by It Matters to Me, later this year.

The upcoming Sweetheart of the Music Hall is led by tales like “Marlene,” a murder mystery; “Adeline,” inspired by an abandoned amusement park in Berlin; and “3 Years On” a song about leaving Austin, the live music capital of the world. The album title serves as both an homage to the Byrds’ “Sweetheart of the Rodeo” (also referenced in the song “Geraldine”) and a nod to the musicians with whom Dunn has climbed the ranks at Rockwood Music Hall. The title track is a fictionalized account of weekly late night performances at the venue, and loosely based on musician Misty Boyce, who plays piano on it.

“For a long time, it seemed like Austin had a community of musicians but New York had a scene,” said Dunn. “But, when Rockwood opened and the late nights started, that changed. Suddenly you were playing for and with people because it was fun, not because you had an agenda. There were nationally known acts mingling with locals, but it didn’t matter. People went there to listen, not to be seen.”

Sweetheart’s pulp style album art — conceived by Dunn after grabbing a Hard Case Crime novel to read during jury duty — features cover model Ann Courtney of Mother Feather and occasional bartender at Rockwood. Originally a photograph taken by New York City photographer Emily Raw, it was handed off to Glen Orbik, a notable illustrator for Hard Case Crime novels. Orbik then enlisted Steve Cooley, who’s worked on several books for the same company, to create the design.

Debbie Miller to release "Measures & Waits" This Spring

Miller, a classically trained pianist who studied under a Julliard alumna for ten years, began her career in the Brooklyn and East Village music scenes in 2007. With song topics ranging from love to bathroom graffiti, Miller’s music oscillates flawlessly between folk-ish tunes on guitar and pounding numbers on the piano.

The anticipated follow-up to her 2010 debut album Fake Love, Measures & Waits is about the toils of measuring and waiting for love.

With quirky lyrics that teeter between honesty, seriousness and silliness, Miller — who was named “New York’s best kept secret” (ResidentMediaPundit) — has developed a reputation for her unique live shows, which are often highlighted by her propensity for error. “I always mess up somehow in a live show. Whether I forget the words, screw up the music, or fall off the stage — true story.” These “Debbie Do-overs” have become fan favorites. “I think it’s because people respond to authenticity and honesty in art and performance,” she said.

After moving cross-country to Seattle in 2010, Miller immersed herself in the legendary music scene and has been quickly embraced by West Coast audiences.

In Seattle she’s graced the stages of the Fremont Abbey, Conor Byrne Pub, and JewelBox Theater at the Rendezvous, and will celebrate the release of Measures & Waits at Columbia City Theater this spring.

Oh! My Blackbird will release their debut full-length album Dare Me on March 6th.

Inspired by classical music — particularly choral music and madrigals — and 60’s and late 70’s folk revival, mixed with 90’s-00’s era rock, their sound is driven by tight vocals and witty, often venomous lyrics. Sullivan, as Oh! My Blackbird’s songwriter, tells introspective tales of real life experiences that are steeped in traditional pop — like a string of really bad boyfriends — mixed with a mystical folk mentality.

Oh! My Blackbird released their first EP Too Much Future in May 2011, followed by Drop Dead EP in October 2011. Both releases are highlighted by Kohl’s earthy vocals, Jozwiak’s soaring cello lines and Sullivan’s romantic and acerbic lyrics.

Look for more of the band’s acoustic folk pop sounds, combined with mystical and psychedelic elements on Dare Me. Recorded in January 2012, Dare Me was produced by Oliver Ignatius (Ghost Pal) at the Cobble Hill based recording studio Mama Coco’s Funky Kitchen.
